World Society for the Protection of Animals WSPA is an international animal protection organisation working to raise the standards of animal welfare throughout the world. WSPA campaigns for better animal protection legislation and carries out direct field projects, training, education and awareness programmes. WSPA is currently working in 90 countries in partnership with 400 member animal welfare societies. The society is represented on many international bodies and is the only animal welfare organization to have consultative status at the United Nations and the Council of Europe. A key area of WSPA's work has been the introduction of animal welfare principles into regions where they were previously under developed or non- existent. Building on the experience of WSPA, staff have brought emergency aid to animals during floods, earthquakes, explosions, famines, oil spills and wars and have built up a reputation as a world leader in this field. |
