UKAEA was established almost 50 years ago to pioneer the development of nuclear power in the UK. Today our primary task is the safe environmental restoration of sites in Dounreay Scotland, Windscale in Cumbria, Winfrith in Dorset and Harwell and Culham in Oxfordshire. This entails dismantling and removing the radioactive facilities on those sites and safely managing the resulting wastes. Each of these decommissioning projects offers extensive, long-term challenges. Challenges that inspire innovative thinking - and demand groundbreaking research. UKAEA is also tasked with contributing the UK's input to the European Union's Fusion Research Programme, which means that engineers here are regularly involved in sharing knowledge with researchers across Europe. To join us, you should have at least a 2.1 degree - but academic excellence is not our only measure of success. We also look for such personal qualities as strong communication and problem-solving skills, self-awareness and, above all, the ability to establish and build good relationships. In return, we offer an attractive starting salary, generous holiday entitlement, a contributory pension scheme, relocation support and chartership fees.
