Committed to making Surrey a better place, we give our team all of the support and development opportunities that they need to be the best. It's working too.
Rated as a 4 star authority in our most recent Comprehensive Performance Assessment, and given 3 stars for our Social Services provision (the highest ratings possible),
we've been praised for continuing to improve. In fact, in 2006 we carried out a thorough Business Delivery Review that is already producing further improvements.
So we're not just content to be one of the best. We want to be THE best, in turn enabling us to deliver the kind of services that our community really deserves.
That's why we're looking for people who are just as ambitious as we are.
Our unique Services for Families Directorate is just one example of the level of innovation that we aspire to. Established to bring together education and care services for children and adults, as well as increasing the integration between adult care and the NHS, it's a joined up approach that's designed to deliver consistently high standards across the county. Giving service users a clear point of access for health, housing and other agencies it's also creating attractive economies of scale, enabling us to make the best possible use of our budgets.
Over the last 10 years our team has driven a major programme of change that's revolutionised everything from where we work to the services we provide (creating some pretty impressive career opportunities along the way). We've refocused on meeting the needs of our customers and pioneered community profiling, local management of schools, care in the community, integrated transport planning and working with the private sector - long before any of these became national policy. In short, we're shaping the future of local government, leading from the front, innovating and pushing the boundaries, giving our team all of the support they need…everything you want from a prospective employer, in fact.
Near the top of many national league tables, and with an excellent reputation for our educational standards and response to the e-government agenda, our success has resulted in us being awarded a ground-breaking Public Service Agreement. In essence, this recognises and rewards our performance with additional funding in return for continued improvements. So it won't come as a surprise to learn that we're just as keen on recognising and rewarding everyone in our team who goes that little bit further to deliver excellence. We'll put your development first, with a continuing programme of training and support. Looking for promotion? Great, we always try to promote from within. Show us what you're made of and we'll show you plenty of exciting career opportunities.
If you're already a resident, you'll know that Surrey is an exceptionally pleasant county in which to live and work. For those of you that don't, we're the most densely wooded county in England and the Surrey Hills have been designated an area of outstanding natural beauty. What's more, with a prosperous, growing economy and exceptionally low rates of unemployment, average incomes in Surrey are 40% above the national figure. We like to think that our sense of ambition is just that little bit higher too. So, whilst we're proud to be a public sector organisation, we share much of the drive and vision of a leading commercial organisation. Challenges are tackled head on, new thinking embraced and radical ideas explored. All with one aim in mind, to make Surrey a better place to live for our million strong community…and a better place to work for you.
