Military Air Solutions – world-class technology
The Military Air Solutions business of BAE Systems employs around 10,000 people on five key military aircraft businesses – Typhoon, Nimrod, Hawk, the Joint Strike Fighter and Autonomous Systems and Future Capability (Air) . We also explore the potential for commercial applications of our unique technologies worldwide.
Operations are carried out at three major sites in the UK – Warton & Samlesbury in Lancashire, and Woodford in Cheshire. A highly innovative, creative and commercially aware company, we maximise our position in the aerospace sector by focusing on our customer’s capability requirements. This is from initial briefing, through design, build and systems integration to test, delivery, through-life training and support.

Engineering Opportunities
Engineering is at the heart of our business and BAE Systems’ engineers of all disciplines play a central role in ensuring the delivery of our Projects to time, budget and customers’ expectations. They are involved in all phases of the life-cycles of our Projects - from Autonomous Systems and Future Capability (Air) design through development, manufacturing, and in-service support.
You could find yourself embedded in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) in one of our major product streams; or assigned to one of our specialist Engineering shared service areas. Wherever you’re placed, you will find yourself in a multi-disciplined environment working alongside staff from a wide variety of other functional backgrounds such as Project Management, Commercial or Manufacturing.

Project Management
BAE Systems’ Project Management people play a central role in ensuring the delivery of our Projects to time, budget and customers’ expectations. They are involved in all phases of the life-cycles of our Projects - from bid preparation and submission through development, manufacturing, and in-service support.
Our teams work across the Business in both the Projects and the functional areas. You could find yourself embedded in an Integrated Product Team (IPT) in one of our major product streams; or working within a central Project Office; or assigned to one of the shared service areas such as Engineering. Wherever you’re placed, you will find yourself in a multi-disciplined environment working alongside staff from a wide variety of other functional backgrounds such as Engineering, Commercial or Manufacturing.
In all cases, our Project Management people are governed by a central project management functional team. As well as ensuring that everyone has access to the appropriate tools and processes, the central Project Management team takes professional responsibility for the career development of all of our Project Management People.

Procurement
The role of Military Air Solutions Procurement and Supply Chain is to deliver business benefit across the airborne product portfolio through:
- supplier performance management
- aggregation and leverage of spend
- management and mitigation of supply risks
- order book / commitment file management
- delivering value for money
- deployment of benchmark processes and technologies
- continued development of its people
The supply chain is recognised as a fundamental business process and the continued application of strategic sourcing, together with the appropriate use of procurement tool sets, whether traditional or e-based, is critical to optimising supply chain performance in order to meet our Customers’ Programme requirements.
The Procurement Function within Military Air Solutions, operating in a team environment with all other business areas, e.g. Operations, Engineering and Project Management, delivers its accountabilities through three business streams:
Programme Dedicated Teams, primarily responsible for:
- Bespoke General and Avionics equipment, Weapons and Integrated Logistical Support Procurement
- Equipment Contract Management
- Supply Chain Performance
Shared Service Teams, primarily responsible for:
