Scotts Mission

Our mission is to continually strengthen our position as the world's foremost marketer of branded products and services for lawn and garden, while meeting challenging profit and return on investment growth goals.

Scotts in the UK

The Scotts Company (UK) Ltd. was formed through the acquisition of Miracle Garden Care in 1996 and Levington Horticulture at the end of 1997. The head office of the UK Consumer Business Group is in Godalming, Surrey, and that of the UK Professional Business Group in Bramford, near Ipswich, Suffolk. The growing media unit is in East Yorkshire (Hatfield), and the fertiliser manufacturing facility is at Howden on Humberside.

Scotts in the UK is the No. 1 in lawn and garden care, with brands that include Weedol and Roundup, the top-selling consumer weed control products; Evergreen, the leading lawn fertiliser; the Levington range of composts and Miracle-Gro, the leading plant fertiliser. Scotts also supplies brand-leading products to professional growers and the turf and amenity market. These include Osmocote, the top-selling controlled release fertilizer, Levington & Shamrock, the best selling professional growing media and Greenmaster, the leading fine turf fertilizer. Scotts (UK) Ltd. has an annual turnover approaching £100m.

Scotts International

Other acquisitions took place in Europe towards the end of the 90s, namely ASEF in the Netherlands and Belgium and Rhone-Poulenc Jardin who sell a range of consumer lawn and garden products in France, Germany, Benelux, Austria, Italy and Spain.

With the growth of the business through acquisition has come the rationalisation across Europe of the R&D and Supply Chain functions. We are now looking at ways to benefit from a rationalised and standardised product portfolio that will be available on a pan-European basis and to develop new products that will be launched internationally.

Into the Future

This is a growing market with vast potential in which Scotts is the leading innovator. Our brands are supported by unrivalled and consistent investment in TV advertising. Success has come from working closely with retailers as category managers to increase market penetration, both through major multiples as well as specialist outlets. Scotts has a strong tradition of innovation, with a pipeline of new products to continue growing the market and its market share.

Scotts is implementing a new Enterprise-wide Resource Planning Information System for the Company. Using SAP software, this system will help Scotts to strengthen its position by utilising powerful new tools and new ways of doing business.
