What we do
As the CIO’s trusted adviser, EDS provides the best solutions for executives
to maximise return on their IT investments. Our deep industry
knowledge enables clients to address issues specific to their businesses,
and our unmatched global infrastructure provides the capacity and
capability to help ensure we serve our clients extraordinarily well.
How we do it
Our portfolio is built around innovative offerings in application maintenance
and development, business process outsourcing, and infrastructure,
including desktop services, hosting, storage, and networking.
These services are delivered on the EDS Agile Enterprise Platform, our
next generation global delivery system that allows our clients to respond
quickly to changing market dynamics and increase their competitiveness.
EDS in the UK
EDS was established in the UK in 1984, we now employ more than 16,500
people at more than 200 locations nationwide and serve more than 120
clients across most industry sectors.
Commercial Operations
In the UK, EDS’ commercial operations centre around
financial services, retail, manufacturing, consumer industries
and retail, and the energy and utilities industries.
- Powering major UK financial institutions EDS processes
thousands of financial transactions a day for firms such as
Lloyds TSB, Liverpool Victoria and Royal Bank of Scotland.
- As one of the leading IT Services providers to the UK’s
energy and utility industry, EDS helps companies such
as BP and Electralink by optimizing product portfolios,
improving productivity and accelerating speed to market.
- EDS and the Transys consortium have harnessed cutting
edge technology to deliver Transport for London’s
Oyster Card - a service that has won multiple awards
from a diverse range of independent organisations.
Other commercial clients include:
- Abbey, BP, British Airways, Rolls-Royce, Thorntons
Public Sector Operations
EDS has almost 40 years of government experience and is the biggest
supplier of IT services to the UK government. We support governments
across the world, helping them deliver effective and efficient services to
their citizens.
- As prime contractor in the ATLAS consortium EDS will be
central to the successful delivery of the Defence Information
Infrastructure (Future) (DII(f)) for the UK’s Ministry of Defence
(MoD). DII(f) is a major contract running over 10 years and will
replace numerous individual information systems throughout the
MoD with a single more efficient information infrastructure.
- The UK Department for Work and Pensions is one of EDS’
largest accounts. In the DWP Jobcentre Plus sites EDS have
made 400,000 job vacancies available online at specially
developed Jobpoint kiosks. These allow jobseekers to quickly
find suitable job opportunities throughout the country,
a major improvement on the traditional system of cards
and notice boards displaying only local vacancies.
- EDS’ work with HM Prisons and the Court Service includes the
successful delivery of the XHIBIT system of evidence management
for the Crown Courts and the National Offender Management
Information System (NOMIS) which will provide a single end
to end view of an offender across the whole UK justice space.
Other public sector clients include:
- The Metropolitan Police, the Department for Constitutional Affairs,
the Royal Mail
