Makita
- the early years
Makita traces its history back to 1915 when it was founded by Mr Masaburo Makita as a privately managed company in Nagoya, Japan
,
selling and repairing motors and transformers.
1945 saw the company move the operation to its present location in Anjo, Japan
-
manufacturing motors for the construction and textile industry.
In
1955 Jujiro Goto became president of Makita (grandfather of the current
president, Mr Mike Goto). He improved
the corporate structure and established the company's present foundation.
Makita
launched the first Japanese made portable hand planer in 1958 - making the
first step in the company's transition into the production of specialised
electric power tools.
By
1970 Makita established a further factory in Okazaki,
Japan. This was followed by overseas subsidiaries in
the USA,
Europe,
Australia
and Canada.
