Our global GSM and UMTS headquarters are in Swindon, Wiltshire, where engineers and Bell Labs scientists are developing third-generation systems and wireless mobile solutions for a range of applications. As well as being the world leader in communications networking solutions, we are leaders in the optical and mobile networking market. We maintain our leading position in these and other communications technologies (such as DSL, Voice over IP, ATM) by investing 11 per cent of our revenue (that's $4.5bn of $38bn) in our research and development arm, the world-renowned Bell Labs. In fact, over its 75-year history, Lucent's Bell Labs has received 11 Nobel Laureates. We are also sponsors of the Jordan Grand Prix Formula 1 team, one of the top five teams on the F1 racing circuit. This sponsorship mirrors our brand values in terms of speed, innovation and technology. As part of its sponsorship, Lucent is providing several pieces of technology to Jordan Grand Prix including noise cancellation technology, wireless data networking and high-speed data transfer technologies. Across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Lucent is looking to recruit 2000 people in the short term - a third of those are in the UK. Since we operate in a pan-European and even pan-global communications market, we are currently looking to recruit experienced engineers in both the UK and international market. If you feel your skillsets and aspirations would compliment our UK development program, we would like to hear from you.
