> Specialist Crime Department |
The area covered by the City of London Police may be small - but the career prospects on offer are surprisingly varied. Maybe you're up for the challenge of working as a Police Officer in a uniquely different Force, recognised around the world for its expertise. Or perhaps you'd like to join the team that provides wide-ranging background support - everything from HR to Fleet Management. Whatever you're looking for, we think you'll find it here. We police the area referred to as the "Square Mile", which stretches from the River Thames in the South to the Barbican Centre in the North, Holborn and Fleet Street to the West and Aldgate and Liverpool Street to the East. The day to day policing of the City is divided between the two divisional stations in Bishopsgate and Snow Hill. Officers and support staff respond to the everyday problems of the City from these stations. Our Headquarters is located in Wood Street, which houses the main Control and Communications Centre for the Force. There are five Departments/Divisions within the Force, namely Specialist Crime Department, Corporate Support Department, Operational Support Department, Snow Hill Division and Bishopsgate Division. We occupy five premises within the City including the Bernard Morgan House, which is a police residence within the Barbican. The Specialist Crime Department is led by a Detective Chief Superintendent who is responsible for over 180 police and support staff. The Department provides a wide range of services for investigating, detecting and preventing crime and disorder. These include:
Operational Support Department Operational Support is the most varied and diverse Department within the City of London Police. It employs approximately 280 staff (180 police officers and 100 support staff) who provide a range of Specialist Services in support of policing the City Square Mile. This includes:
The Corporate Support Department provides all the business services to the Force, which includes:
Facilities Management is the largest section within the Department and includes Force Clothing Stores, Occupational Health and Welfare, Bernard Morgan House and Registry. The Department also supports the senior officers of the Force (ACPO) through the Staff Office. The Department has approximately 120 support staff and 35 police officers. Snow Hill Division and Bishopsgate Division The day to day policing of the City is divided into two divisional stations in Bishopsgate and Snow Hill. They are able to call upon 406 uniformed and CID Officers, 58 support staff and the Special Constabulary. They are responsible for protecting over 6,000 residents, in excess of 350,000 workers who commute daily, and many thousands of tourists who visit the City each year. Whilst foot patrol remains one of the most important activities giving high visibility reassurance, a wide range of policing operations are undertaken ranging from community liaison, to fraud and anti terrorism. We aim to provide a high quality police service within the City of London and, in co-operation with the community, other organisations and agencies, seek to promote a safer, tranquil and crime free environment.
