ABOUT US
The Automation Partnership (TAP) is a British company, with over 120 staff. Our offices are conveniently located close to the world's foremost centres for technological innovation and learning - Cambridge in the UK and Boston in the US. OUR BUSINESS TAP's business is focused strategically on the life science industry sector - pharmaceutical, biotech, agrochemical and genomics. Over the last decade the life science industries have been increasingly dependent on flexible automation across research, development and manufacture. The Automation Partnership has been the pioneer since 1988 in applying robust industrial automation approaches at large scale, to unusual and demanding science based processes within these areas. Most of our business is generated from overseas, today we have over 250 robotic automation systems in intensive use at customer sites around the world. You will find TAP's systems are installed at more than twenty leading pharmaceutical companies worldwide including Bristol-Myers Squibb, Merck, Procter & Gamble, SmithKline Beecham and AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals. These systems are all in business critical applications such as cell culture, compound and sample management, liquid handling and ultra high throughput screening. They have helped produce many of leading drugs that are in use today, and are also supporting the creation of the next generation of pharmaceutical products. In virtually all our applications we are either the sole or leading provider of these technologies. OUR VISION When TAP was founded, our vision was to be the global leader in advanced automation for the life science industries. Today that objective is close to being realised, as we become the preferred provider in this area. We remain ambitious however, and TAP continues to develop and implement market driven automation solutions to meet the discovery, development and commercial challenges of the 21st century. MAKING A DIFFERENCE Q: So, what does is take to become the preferred automation supplier to the world's largest life science companies? A: People like you We operate in an exciting, fast-moving industry where customers rely on us for innovative solutions which help speed up drug discovery and manufacture. The Automation Partnership employs over 120 creative, talented individuals. We succeed in the world's most demanding marketplace - the US - because of the calibre of our people and a working environment that constrains no-one. Our aim is to provide surroundings where you can explore, challenge and develop in your chosen field or branch out into new spheres. We buy into your potential. SOFTWARE OPPORTUNITIES Although the most visible part of TAP's products is the large and complex machinery, the main engineering challenge is in the field of software. As TAP has evolved, our software expertise has grown from machine control to encompass database technology, GUI design, and scheduling algorithms. With many millions of compounds to track, and many thousands being processed and reformatted at any one time, you begin to appreciate the type of IT challenge TAP is faced with every day. Software is the vital enabling ingredient which not only turns our machines from sets of components into integrated and efficient machines, but reaches into the enterprise computing systems of our client companies to process the data associated with the machines operation. Consequently, the Software Group is the fastest growing part of the company. Currently 30 strong, we plan to expand past the 50 marker during 2001 - by recruiting the sort of people who will thrive in our fast-moving environment. LOCATION Our UK head office benefits from a rural setting, yet is only 40 minutes from London by train (direct links to Kings Cross).
