Abbott in Germany
During the past couple of years, Abbott Diagnostics Devision has more than doubled its work force and is further expanding at a fast rate. Our business includes the manufacturing of diagnostic tests (e.g. HIV, hepatitis) in an ISO 9001-2000 regulated invironment. Furthermore we are driving the business of sales & service of diagnostic tests and instruments.

Located in Wiesbaden-Delkenheim, we work to great effect in our departments: Licensing and quality assurance for our products are a top priority, as is offering advice to our customers. We are also engaged in the development and manufacturing of products with focus on hepatitis and HIV tests in the field of diagnostics, as well as in logistics for worldwide distribution.

Abbott in Ireland
Abbott Ireland Diagnostics Division (AIDD) recently announced a €115 million investment in a greenfield site in Longford and an expansion in Sligo. This will create approximately 500 jobs in Longford and 350 jobs in Sligo across all disciplines over the next five years. 80% of these jobs will be for those with a minimum of a third-level qualification.

In Sligo we currently manufacture
• blood-screening products and
• reagents in an ISO9001-2000 regulated environment.

The bulk reagent operations process manufactures line diluent solutions for use in Abbott AxSYM and CELL DYN instruments. The diagnostic reagent operations process manufactures hepatitis and retrovirus diagnostic reagents for Abbott instrument platforms AxSYM and IMx.

Abbott in the UK
Murex Biotech Ltd is part of the diagnostics division and is one of four Abbott sites within the UK. The company has steadily expanded to comprise a total UK workforce of over 2500 employees. At Murex, we are dedicated to the development and manufacture of products for the:
• detection
• monitoring
• screening of infectious diseases and other medical conditions.

Murex is based at Dartford, Kent, and its principle focus is a range of enzyme immunoassay products for use by blood transfusion services throughout the world to screen for infectious agents such as hepatitis and HIV. In addition, we have a growing biotechnology group who manufacture recombinant proteins and monoclonal antibodies for use in Abbott products.
