NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) collects, tests, processes, stores and delivers blood, plasma and tissue to every NHS Trust in England and North Wales. We also match, allocate, audit and analyse organ donations across the whole of the UK. If you join us, you’ll have chosen to become part of a team that enables people in need to benefit from life-saving donations.

There’s a lot about NHSBT that might surprise you.  For one, we’re a Special Health Authority in England and Wales: whilst we are accountable to the Department of Health, we set a lot of our own standards and guidelines.

We’re also a lot bigger than you might think, with around 6,600 people; from Head office professionals, support teams and drivers to scientists, clinicians and research staff.

Through commitment and teamwork, the organisation ensures that 8,000 units of blood are collected and made ready for use every day.  We also hold nine days’ worth of bloodstock in order to provide a constant supply to hospitals, and our work means around 5,500 people a year can benefit from organ or cornea transplants.

This is a complex, evolving organisation that offers a breadth of inspiring and fulfilling opportunities.
